Azure SRE Agent gains managed MCP-hosting support

Azure SRE Agent can now work with MCP servers hosted through Azure Connector Namespace, enabling access to databases, deployments, telemetry, and incident systems. Managed hosting simplifies infrastructure while allowing organizations to apply controlled tool access, managed identities, and approval workflows for operational AI agents.

Azure SRE Agent can use MCP servers hosted through the preview Azure Connector Namespace to inspect databases, deployments, telemetry and incident systems. Microsoft’s example deploys an Azure SQL MCP server with azd, connects it using managed identity and then exposes selected tools to the agent. Microsoft Azure SDK Blog — 31 August 2026

  • What changed: Connector Namespace handles hosting, HTTPS, scaling and maintenance for supported MCP servers instead of requiring teams to operate each endpoint.
  • Why it matters: Operational agents need governed access to several systems, but every additional tool server expands the security surface.
  • Practical takeaway: Begin with read-only SQL diagnostics and narrowly scoped stored procedures. Use managed identity, tool allowlists and human approval before exposing any remediation command.
