SQL Server Migration Assistant 10.6 expands AI-assisted conversion

SQL Server Migration Assistant 10.6 expands AI-assisted database migration with Code Conversion Copilot for SAP ASE/Sybase migrations and improved enterprise authentication. The release also brings updates to supported models and Oracle conversion while addressing authentication issues in Azure Database Migration Service.

SSMA 10.6 makes Code Conversion Copilot generally available for SAP ASE/Sybase migrations and adds generally available managed-endpoint authentication. It also updates supported models, improves Oracle conversion output and fixes Azure Database Migration Service authentication failures involving duplicate subscription names. • What changed: AI-assisted conversion and enterprise authentication have advanced from preview toward supported migration workflows.
  • Why it matters: Copilot can accelerate stored-procedure conversion, but semantic differences in transactions, locking, null handling and date arithmetic remain migration risks.
  • Practical takeaway: Treat generated T‑SQL as a candidate transformation: compare result sets, execution plans and concurrency behavior against a captured source-workload test suite.
